How was the idea born?
Thanks to Alexander Alexander Nieves, a very talented innovator who knew how to transform an accident into a great opportunity.
Alexander in 2018 suffered a traffic accident while traveling on his bicycle, from which, fortunately, he managed to escape unharmed. This event marked a before and after in his life, not because of the severity of the accident, but because he decided not to regret it and turn this into an opportunity.
Thanks to this fact, he discovered that the reason why traffic accidents happen, in which bicycle users are involved, is because they are not very visible in the middle of traffic and that makes them very vulnerable.
This problem that affects thousands of people every day, impacted Alexander's life and this is how this mechatronic engineer, in search of a solution, realized that by making himself more visible on the streets when riding his bicycle, he could be safer. He decided to create a prototype of a suitcase covered with led lights that, by receiving signals from the movements of a device installed in the helmet, indicates the direction in which the cyclist is moving. Without imagining it, he had an idea that completely changed his life.
This prototype for personal use began to attract people who saw it on the streets, this motivated him to undertake and give life to BIGO, which today is his greatest pride. A great compromiser always thinks about serving. Therefore, Alexander saw that he had the possibility of contributing his ideas and knowledge to the transformation of society, he decided to improve the prototype and created a lighter and more portable product for the convenience of bike users.
The arrival of the pandemic was not an obstacle to continue building the project. The impact of this enterprise, of great social value, was so great that in the last year it has been nominated in two high-level competitions in the category of the best entrepreneurial project. Which allows you to strengthen his project and grow in social networks, having the opportunity to reach more people from all over the country and abroad.recycled PET material.
"Technology, innovation and education can be the engine of transformation," says Alexander.
What is BiGo?
The system consists of a sensor located in the upper part of the cyclist's helmet, this reads the lateral movements of the head (not rotating) and activates an automatic signaling system with LED lights that are attached to the rear of the bicycle or skateboard.
This is a kind of tablet that is placed on the user's back by means of a system of magnets that fixes the structure to another that is inside the clothing; recharging is done by means of a USB cable.
Bigo! It already has three prototypes in its history that have evolved to a smaller size, which makes it more functional and lightweight. The latter is made of canvas, honeysuckle (fiber similar to fique), jute and recycled PET material.
Bigo Social Impact!
A social impact program for girls and boys who travel by bicycle to go to school in a rural area of Colombia, Bigo donates one device for every 100 sold.
